Learning From Ask Aaron Lee
A few months back I dipped my toes into the world of social media and worked for a company as a Social Media and Analytics Intern. It was an incredible experience but life started getting way to busy and I had to step down and focus on other things.
It was during that time, however, that I kind of became obsessed with social media and started following some pretty cool people in order to learn more. One of those individuals was a man named Aaron Lee, also known as “Ask Aaron Lee.”
As I started studying his social media ways, I discovered three different aspects that we can all take and apply directly to our lives. See, as much as I love social media, health and fitness is where my true passion lies (as I am sure you can tell.)
Anything I do, any experience I have, I can always relate it in some way to teaching others about getting healthy (that’s just how my mind works).
Anyways, as a shout out to Mr. Aaron Lee I wanted to write about three different objectives that I have learned from him, and directly apply them to fitness to hopefully inspire you in some way:
1. You got to hustle your butt off to get results!
If you want to achieve your fitness goals, it is going to take serious hard work and dedication. Although the process is simple, the work is incredibly hard! There is a reason Aaron Lee has over 335,000 followers on twitter (and no that’s not a typo). Day in and day out, he is always dedicating himself and working very hard to put up great content and deliver the information that his followers want.
You need to approach your workouts and nutrition with the same tenacity as Aaron Lee engages his followers through social media. At one point, he started out with zero followers on Twitter and no ‘Likes’ on Facebook. We all have to start somewhere whether that be in fitness, social media, a new job, etc. It is not about where you start, it is about where you are going and where you end up.
Know that it is a challenge to attain your fitness goals, but if you work hard each day to move closer to those goals, your results will be incredible!

2. The more fun you have, the more you will enjoy the process
Getting in shape is a process. It does not happen overnight. It takes months to get in great shape (or 40 days if you do it right!). When Aaron Lee tweets, you can see he is having a blast doing it. Now don’t get me wrong, writing a 140 characteristic tweet is much easier than getting in a 45-minute intense workout.
But there is a lot more behind-the-scenes work to those 140 characters. Aaron Lee researches, works, interacts, responds, and delivers to please his followers. But you know he has loads of fun doing it. If he didn’t, he would not be nearly as engaged as he is or he wouldn’t describe himself as an “Average Joe who loves social media more than his coffee.” And according to what I have seen, he loves his coffee!
The other night when I was going for a workout, I was incredibly tired but knew I had to get the workout in. Instead of complaining, I tricked my mind into thinking that I had serious energy and that it was the most fun workout I ever had.
There are days (very few I am sure) that Aaron Lee doesn’t feel like researching and engaging, but he does it because he knows he has to. Many people rely on him for his information and knowledge. When you do not feel like working out (and trust me those days will come), you must trick yourself into getting the workout in somehow, some way. When trying to get in shape, it will not always be fun. But your body is relying on you to get those workouts in and relying on you to feed it incredibly healthy food so it can burn fat and build muscle!

3. If you engage, results will follow
Engagement is huge when it comes to the world of twitter and social media. One of the best features of twitter is you have constant access to experts, celebrities, athletes, and more to ask them any and all questions that you want.
For most “twitter celebrities” you will rarely see a response when asking a question or trying to engage with them. Aaron Lee, however, is always engaging. He asks questions, answers questions, responds to tweets; he is always getting better at what he does.
If you want your health situation to improve, you must always be getting better! You have got to focus on eating incredibly healthy, engage in serious high intensity workouts, and avoid the factors that will hinder your health and results.
No matter what workout program you are on or what nutrition plan you are trying, if you are constantly missing workouts and cheating on your diet, you are not fully engaged.
Getting fit is all about engagement. Engaging in the right workouts, eating the right foods, and doing it consistently. Not a day goes by where you don’t see Aaron Lee engaging. You need to be the same way when it comes to fitness. Engagement and consistency are the key!
There are plenty more lessons we can learn from this “coffee loving, social media addict.” If you want success, you must make a consistent effort day in and day out to make your goals a reality.
